In loving memory of Tristan Nichols

They say that the brightest stars burn out the fastest, and Tristan Nichols was definitely taken too fast. Our shining star died unexpectedly in his sleep on October 12, 2018, leaving behind his beautiful wife Jacky and 4-month old daughter, Mia Luna.  This GoFundMe campaign is to help Jacky and their baby girl fund Tristan’s funeral and support them at this unbelievably difficult time.

Tristan and Jacky were married September 13, 2013, in San Diego in a small ceremony in front of family and friends. These star-crossed lovers had met online in 2005 while Jacky was living in her native Tijuana, Mexico and Tristan in his hometown of Plymouth.  After seven years of emailing, they decided to meet for real in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. They were destined to be together, even sharing the same birthday (February 17). After Tristan and Jacky had a Mexico rendezvous, Tristan left Plymouth, UK on a one-way trip to Tijuana.  He settled into a job as an anchorman for the San Diego Union-Tribune (UTTV) and found an apartment in downtown San Diego. And as chance would have it, their apartment was numbered ‘217’, sharing their birthdays of February 17.

Fortunes changed and Tristan headed back to Plymouth UK, now with his beautiful bride where he returned to his beloved Plymouth Herald where he had worked as a reporter for 13 years.  Tristan was an award-winning and decorated journalist who reported from the front line in two war zones. As a Defense Reporter for the Plymouth Herald, he embedded with troops in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as Sierra Leone, and he was even awarded an Operational Service Medal for his work. After returning from Mexico and a short (second) stint at the Herald, Tristan settled in as a Public Relations Officer for the Royal British Legion, a job that he loved dearly. Tristan felt at home there and that he was giving something back to the troops he had spent his career reporting about.

Tristan had several loves in his life: writing, surfing, reporting, music, playing guitar, traveling the world with reckless abandon. He had a close-knit circle of friends and was loved by everyone who met him. He had an infectious lust for life and his love and energy radiated brightly.

Proud family man Tristan was extremely close to his mum, brother and late father and he was the happiest man alive when at home with Jacky and his new baby Mia Luna.

He is preceded in death by his father Gerry who passed in December of 2016.  He is survived by his beautiful wife Jacky and their 4-month old daughter Mia Luna, mum Carol Nichols, brother Jon Nichols and his wife Natalie along with their son Alfred, and countless friends and colleagues from both sides of the pond.

Needless to say, his friends and family are shocked and utterly devastated by the news of his sudden passing.  Funeral services haven’t been announced yet, but all proceeds from this GoFundMe will go towards Jacky and Mia Luna to help them get through this crushingly difficult time. Thank you for any help you can offer, we are truly grateful.
