In Loving Memory of Ligia Patiño

Family and friends, it is with deep sadness that my beautiful caring mother was taken away from us too soon after 8 months of battling the effects of Covid 19.  She was was one of the kindest people on earth and would smile everywhere she went.  My Mother was born in Colombia with little to no formal education and was able to self teach herself relentlessly over the course of her life with 100's of books and educational courses.  My mother is a fighter and so strong.  Even when she was in her 30's after trying to have me for 5 years the Dr.'s told her she couldn't.  Finally when she was 35  she had me.  My mother never gave up and prayed every day for years so she could have a baby.  I was finally born on a snowy halloween day in NY in Queens.  I was her miracle baby and she treated me like it with so much love and kindness for my entire life.  I am so lucky to have a mother like her I am truly blessed.  My mother taught me how to be a young salesman and taught me business ( everyone that knows me knows from Queens knows of my Moms empanadas that she sold from our apartment  ) so much so that my friends would tease me and say they could me smell me coming because I smelled like grease from the empanadas. My mother did whatever she could do to keep a roof over our head.  My Father died when I was 14 so my mother raised me alone during very difficult times for teen boy growing in NY all by herself.  I was a very difficult teen and she was always there for me and never gave up on me.  Luckily I turned my life around and made up for it in my later years. I'm so lucky she never gave up on me thank you Mom!  My mother was an artist, a painter and poet. She was so creative and found these gifts later in her life.  My mother "Doña Ligia" was loved by the entire neighborhood and all my friends.  What my mother really loved was taking pictures and especially of the beach and sunsets.  She was so in love with the beauty of the Ocean.    I was speaking with my Wife and one of my Mom's best friends Ruthy and we decided she " my mother " would of loved to be buried at Sea and scatter the ashes  with a beautiful memorial burial tribute for her.   We are going to use the funds to do a cremation service in NY and then transport and send the ashes to California so she can be with me here for me to do the burial at sea in Los Angeles.  We also have to prepare all of her matters in order and I will need to travel to NY or hire a company in NY this coming month to handle all of her belongings, return of apartment and finalize all end of life affairs with the State of NY.  Since we know everyone is living during these difficult times during the pandemic we looked at the most cost effective ways of honoring my Mothers life.  We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your messages, thoughts and beautiful prayers for my Mother.       With Love Steve
