Kim Mar, née Wong, was tragically struck by a careless driver on the morning of October 3, 2019, in Queens, NY, as she was walking to a bus stop to go to work. She was in the crosswalk and had the right of way. Kim sustained massive head trauma and other bodily injuries and was pronounced dead at North Shore University Hospital. She was only 34 years old and left behind her 5-year-old son, Tyler, 2-year-old daughter, Mikayla, doting husband, and a devastated group of her family and friends. Kim is also survived by her parents as their only child.
On behalf of Kim Mar’s friends and with permission from her husband, Warren, and their family, I, one of Kim’s friends from college, am setting up this fundraiser for Kim and Warren’s two children. All donations will go to Warren Mar to help create their children’s college funds. The proceeds will be put directly into existing 529 savings plans for Tyler and Mikayla. We are reeling from the sudden loss of Kim, who was an angelic and kindhearted soul.
We lovingly remember Kim as an empathetic and humorous friend, always there for advice and to share a laugh. She brought out the best in everyone with her cheerful aura. She was a devoted mother and the backbone of her family, patiently guiding her children and expressing pride as they surpassed each milestone. Kim was artistically talented, spending hours making large origami figures for her children. She was ambitious and intelligent, having just gotten a promotion at work. Kim made life-long friends effortlessly.
The last brief glimpse Warren had of his smiling wife and soulmate was of her taking a photograph of baby Mikayla sleeping on Warren’s head that unfortunate morning. Kim is no longer around to share moments and memories with Warren as their kids grow up. Nothing will bring her back, but hopefully this fund will ease some stress on Warren’s broken heart and help create bright futures for the children Kim adored. This would be a small demonstration of the community’s support for the family at this difficult time.
Feel free to share fond memories of Kim. Maybe one day her children, as they carry on her beautiful spirit, can read how much their mother had been loved and what a positive impact she had made on all of us.
We are thankful for each and every donation.
