It is with unimaginable heartbreak that we share the loss of our beloved friend, Kareem Yaldo, who passed away at just 25 years old.
Kareem was the definition of adventure. He was always seeking new experiences, chasing challenges, and living life with courage and curiosity. Whether it was exploring new places, trying something daring, or simply making memories with friends, Kareem embraced life fully. His energy was contagious, his smile unforgettable, and his presence impossible to replace.
Kareem was an Electrician working at a job site when one day a coworker accidentally drove a scissor lift over his foot, just above his toes and past his safety shoes. Kareem chose not to report the incident because he didn’t want to get his coworker in trouble, and at the time, he believed it wasn’t serious and would heal on its own.
For the first few months, the pain was minimal. However, about three months after the injury, the pain began to worsen significantly. When Kareem finally tried to report the incident, his coworker and employer denied that it ever happened and accused him of lying.
He sought help from multiple doctors. Some didn’t believe him because there were no obvious external signs of injury, while others dismissed his concerns entirely. One doctor suggested he might be suffering from a condition called CRPS, but no physician was willing to formally diagnose him due to lack of having a specific test that leads a doctor to diagnose him with CRPS. No doctor wanted to take action because it was a complicated case. Despite the unbearable pain, no doctor felt his condition met the criteria for amputation even though Kareem was begging for it.
Kareem lived with chronic, relentless pain 24/7. He was often lucky to get just three hours of sleep a night. Pain medications provided no relief. In desperation, he tried taking more medication in hopes it would ease the pain, but tragically, he overdosed, fell into a coma, and passed away within hours.
The donations being collected today will go toward Kareem's funeral expenses and to support his family as they endure this unimaginable loss and ongoing nightmare.
