In Loving Memory of Jimmy Lavis

Donation protected
Loving father, husband, brother, uncle, friend, and grandfather, James “Jimmy” Lavis, was a man who’s impact was truly larger than life.

He is survived by his two sons, Ryan and Joe, nine siblings, Cathy Sparling, and Jeanie French. All who knew Jimmy are completely heartbroken by this sudden loss.

He was the embodiment of selflessness; someone who valiantly put others before himself. He was the essence of a “family man-” he enjoyed plenty of time spent with his children, nieces, and nephews outdoors… hiking, fishing, canoeing, and beach-going. He will be remembered especially for his sense of humor- teaching us to sit back, to enjoy every moment, and to not take life too seriously.

His unconditional love and energy was felt by all who were lucky enough to know him. He welcomed everyone with his radiant smile and open arms; treating everyone as one of his own. His genuine, personable, and attentive nature made all feel right at home. He was never hesitant to extend a hand to those who needed it most. You could always count on Jimmy to know exactly what you needed to make you smile.. whether it'd be home cooked dinner, a goofy joke, a lighthearted story, or a phone call just to check in.

Among his many attributes, Jimmy’s generosity and support were limitless. He was everyone’s, especially Ryan and Joe’s, biggest fan. He made it known through his actions that he took such pride in being a father to two remarkable young adults. Jimmy placed such emphasis on fatherhood, family, and friendship… he inspired all through his endeavors to make every person he knew feel acknowledged and cared for.

His legacy, alongside the countless memories shared with loved ones, provide such comfort during this difficult and unprecedented time.

As we honor and commemorate his life and all it had to offer, we ask that you find it in your hearts to contribute what you can as we say our final farewell to Jimmy. Jimmy gave generously throughout his life, yet never asked for anything in return… We are asking family, friends, or anyone who was graced by Jimmy’s kindness, for donations to help cover the expenses for a proper tribute as we grieve this unexpected loss.

Jimmy’s viewing will be held on May 27, 2021 at 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 7:00 - 9:00 pm at the Branch Funeral Home in Smithtown (190 E. Main St. SMITHTOWN, NY 11787).

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you all in advance for your generosity and support as we navigate through this season. His vibrant presence, laughter, and warmth that changed lives will surely be missed.

Rest in eternal peace, Jimmy… We love you.

“Nothin' left to do but smile, smile, smile.”
