In loving memory of Elsabet Yitayew

Donation protected
On the morning of December 31st 2021, our dear Elsabet Yitayew was tragically taken from us. Her senseless murder was made more horrific because her 9-year-old daughter was with her at the time.

Elsabet had a heart of gold. She immigrated to Canada from Ethiopia with a dream of building a new life for her young family. As someone who was passionate about caring for seniors, she was studying to become a personal support worker. Elsabet was a beautiful young woman who was full of life and passionately committed to serving the community. On that tragic day, neighbours called 911, but by then it was too late.

On New Year’s Eve 2021, a child traumatically became motherless. We, her friends and family, are working hard to make sure that the child can have her uncle, who was a father figure in Ethiopia, by her side at this time. This will bring her some comfort. We have set up this GoFundMe to support Elsabet’s sister, Ande Beshir, with expenses, including the financial costs of raising and adopting a child. We appreciate all of your support, financial and otherwise.

Elsabet Yitayew, beloved Mother, Sister and Friend will be missed and will forever inspire those of us who had the privilege of knowing and loving her sweet soul.

With gratitude,
Friends and family of Elsabet

*There will be a vigil on Friday, January 14 2022, 7-8 pm at Prairie Drive Park in Scarborough.
