Homeless in Marbella

This all began having met a man called Alejandro begging for food for his 4 year old son and girlfriend, who struggle every night to find shelter. I made him a promise that I would come and find him to give him food and clothes. Much to my horror, right under the luxury car garages in Marbella and next to an infamous beach club, I found several abandoned vehicles with no wheels or windows and a couple living on the beach. Slavek and Caterina have lived there for 4 years. Slavek was a helicopter engineer for the military and a qualified masseusse. He can sail a boat and speaks Spanish, German, English and Polish. So adamant were they to be recognized, they fought for their territory and became the first people to ever have been officially registered on a beach by the town hall! They take turns to sleep and never leave through fear that their belongings may get stolen. There are very few people that they trust. The police regularly  attempt to remove these camps. This has happened to them before and despite promises to the contrary have never been able to reclaim their belongings.

With all that we are fortunate to have; a roof over our heads, hot water and hot food,  I urge you all to take a minute to think about anything that you might be able to do to help. When did you last think about when or where the next hot meal was going to come from or where you could go to the bathroom? Please help us change this. The local authorities only seem to be worried about the image of Marbella and removing these poor people from our sight. 

This could be any one of us ...... 

Please help us house them, help us feed them and get these educated, qualified human beings to get back to a reality worth living.
