Cancer treatment for Ula

Donation protected
Hello and Thank you for taking the time to read this post. My name is Basil and I am asking for your help for my beautiful, intelligent, funny and loving 37 year old Fiancé Ula who is battling stage 4 of the very rare cancer - Synovial Sarcoma.

In April 2015 after suffering from a persistent chest infection and after her GP refused to give her an X-ray after repeated requests, Ula took herself to A&E where she exaggerated symptoms of Chest pain and shortness of breathe knowing that she would be given an X-ray, Ula knew that something was not right.
Sure enough the x-ray revealed what looked like a tumour in her right lung. After a biopsy our worst fear was confirmed when Ula was diagnosed with an extremely rare and aggressive type of cancer called Synovial Sarcoma.

Ula was referred to the Royal Marsden in London where she completed 6 cycles of chemotherapy. The tumour responded very well to this Chemo and in October 2015 Ula was operated on at the Royal Brompton at which point they successfully removed the tumour and also one third of Ula’s right lung.
We were told that Ula was now cancer free.

Ula and I became engaged shortly afterwards and started moving on with our lives. This peace was short lived. Devastatingly the Cancer came back in the same lung in March 2016. Ula was then given more chemo, which did not have the desired effect.
She was then given an intensive course of radiotherapy, which worked well and in October 2016 Ula was operated on again, this time the tumour was removed along with the whole of Ula’s right lung.
Again the surgeon was confident with his operation and we were hopeful that this would be the end of Ula’s struggle.
Sadly this was not meant to be, as just one and half months after the operation whilst Ula was recovering from the surgery and just before Christmas and Ula’s 37th birthday we discovered that this wretched disease had come back again.

Ula has now been started on a relatively new type of Chemo called Trabectadin and our oncologist at the Marsden is planning to get the cancer under control again before deciding on the next steps.
We believe now that Ula’s only real long term hope of remission is with immunotherapy treatment.

Immunotherapy is the latest treatment for cancer. Where chemotherapy attacks the cancer directly, immunotherapy activates your immune system to see and attack the cancer on its own. Immunotherapy is the breakthrough in cancer treatment that so many people have prayed for such a long time, and it will be the standard approach to cancer treatment very soon. Unfortunately at this time immunotherapy is only available privately and off label for Ula’s type of cancer, meaning it is not yet registered for use with synovial sarcoma.
We have met with one of the Professors of Oncology of the Claremont clinic in London who is leading the way with immunotherapy treatment in the UK. He would like to start immunotherapy treatment with Ula as soon as possible and is very optimistic about a long-term successful response for Ula.

Although we have some savings and are using this towards the treatment we do not have nearly enough to get this treatment that Ula desperately needs. Which is why we are asking for your help please.
We would be deeply grateful for any donation towards Ula’s treatment and would be so grateful if you could spread this post to as many people as you possibly can via social media or any means possible.
Ula’s strength is staggering.
She is unbelievably strong and determined and has shown a level courage and bravery that is inspiring. Our hearts break at the thought of losing Ula and she is not ready to go. Like all cancer patients I believe that Ula deserves the latest and best treatment available, which is why I humbly ask you to help us get the treatment she needs.

Please Help.

Yours Sincerely & Gratefully,
Basil
