Immigrants & Refugees: COVID19 Relief Fund

Tax deductible
What is happening?

The greater Boston area is home to a very large number (30,000+) of immigrants and refugees from African nations. Many of these families are also small business owners. The COVID 19 crisis is hitting these communities HARD.

In addition to job losses, many folks are losing important business, as the shutdown has brought spending to a halt - this is especially challenging as this month is Ramadan, typically a time of increased spending for Muslim communities and Muslim owned businesses. Those that are still working may be at additional risk of illness as they’re working in high-contact jobs.

Families are suffering, and they need an infusion of immediate relief to get through this time, including food, rental assistance, and support for self-isolation while ill, like humidifiers, and at-home mechanical ventilators (“breathing machines”).

Why this fund?

Many African immigrants have significant cultural, religious, and language barriers to accessing general support for COVID 19 relief, and there is not enough relief to adequately address all of these needs.

ACEDONE is a long-standing community development and social services organization serving Massachusetts African and many other immigrant communities (Asian, Latinx, and others) with educational programming. We are well positioned to help because we have close connections with so many who are struggling so much.

We have set up this fund in response to the direct requests for food, rental, and medical assistance coming to us every day.

We have already raised enough money to have delivered 300 hot meals per day to families. We have a waiting list of 700 families, and we need your help to reach them. We are planning to continue this work for the coming 30 days - hoping to keep people safe and well through the Massachusetts COVID 19 surge.

What can you do?

Please consider a gift. Here is what you can do for struggling families:

Feed a child today: $24

Feed a family tomorrow: $96

Feed an elder for a week: $168

Buy a breathing machine for a sick, self-isolating, essential worker: $215

Please give whatever you can; gifts small and large ensure that our neighbors, our elders, and our communities know we stand shoulder to shoulder in this crisis. We thank you for reading, giving, sharing, and for caring.

Love and light,

The ACEDONE team
