Immigrant Construction Worker BURIED ALIVE

Donation protected
Enrique Perez, 37, immigrated to the United States from Central America 12 years ago. He left a dangerous place with limited opportunities. He came to the United States trusting God and his hard work ethic with the hope of a better life.
He married and had a child who was born in the USA. He worked diligently to support them. He has gladly worked hard manual labor jobs since the week he arrived in America.

In 2012 he found steady employment with a construction company in the Washington DC area. Enrique worked full time for over 7 years performing hard, dangerous labor for this company. Enrique thrived at his tasks. His company documented the quality work he did.

In May of 2019, an accident occurred on a job site in Virginia. With no supervisor present, a wall of dirt fell on Enrique burying him alive, crushing him, nearly suffocating him to death. His coworkers hurried to dig him out before he died. The impact crushed his back, shoulder and broke his leg. It caused soft tissue injuries throughout his spinal column. He has lost mobility in his arm and now walks with a limp. He is in pain, 24×7, and yet he is pressing on with therapy looking forward to (hopefully) some degree of health in the future.

He had to undergo multiple surgeries over a several week period. He will be in therapy for months or years to come. He is physically disabled. Normally, these work place accidents are taken care of by the employers insurance carrier. Sadly, for Enrique that was not the case.

Enrique's supervisor assured his family his insurance would cover the bills and that he would continue to be paid. Enrique trusted his boss. After the first pile of medical bills arrived, the employer changed his mind, also informing Enrique he could no longer pay him, but wishing him the "best of luck finding a new job."

It was soon discovered that his employer canceled its workmen's compensation insurance in 2015 in order to save money. Enrique is now out of job with no paycheck and is also over $50,000.00 in debt (with expenses and treatment ongoing) for the injuries he suffered on the job. The tragedy of the story is that his employer did not follow the rules and now his entire family is in jeopardy.

The employer's decision to cancel their insurance in order to save money only became a problem when someone got hurt. It was only a matter of time, however, as construction injuries are a common occurrence. Any one of the "at risk" immigrant construction workers in this company could have fallen victim to this situation.

The injury suffered by Enrique was catastrophic. He has permanent disability and over $50,000.00 in current medical bills. Enrique is now unfairly in debt. His company offered no health insurance either. Being that Enrique has worked manual labor his entire life his disability becomes seemingly insurmountable. He is obviously in great need of assistance.

The situation is dire. They cannot pay their rent and utilities as medical bills and threats from medical and other bill collectors pile up (daily).
Enrique is a humble family man who does the right thing. He spent 12 years working to build a life in this country. The system he worked so hard in has temporarily failed him. We have a chance to help him.

Despite all of this he continues to remain positive and is still believing for a life in this country. He needs your help. Your compassion will directly help rectify this situation. The Perez family greatly appreciates any consideration you may give. 100% of proceeds of this campaign will go directly to this dear family for medical and living expenses.  May you be richly blessed for your generosity. Contributors will be a direct answer to prayer.
