When I found out I had cancer at first it was unreal. I worked for as long as I could but in the end was no longer physical able. Which is where I found out that ones value is only as good as their usefulness. My employer was always sympathetic to my condition, till my illness worsened. I tried for as long as I could to hold off my treatments. I gave my employer more than a months notice that I would no longer be able to work. They seem more than understanding as we Shook hands and exchange hugs. My employer let me work the rest of the month and on my last day upon checking my bank I was informed by the owner that I would not be getting paid for my last month of work. I asked why and was told how else were they going to recoup the day missed for sickness, as I was on salary. Which I will admit I had miss but Worked with double pneumonia to the point of drowning before I took those days. In the end they keeped my hole check and falsified my ei hours so I couldn’t take my medical leave. I ended up needing to get another job, holding off my treatments for another 6 month to get my medical leave hours. I thank you Windsor plywood westlock ab.
I worked those months at which I took leave for my fist round of treatment. After my treatment i returned to work only undergoing Preventative Chemo every three months. I worked for half a year but my cancer had returned with vengeance. I was once again unable to work while undergoing treatment. When I once again returned to work. Lol my excitement to be back was sort lived as rumors of coorperate taking over were afoot. When corporate took over I informed management of my ailments, which they informed would not be a problem.
Some time had past and my employer had recommended work insurance for some one in my situation. The work insurance was a little more than we could afford, but we tightened our belts and paid the $200 extra a month over my regular benefits. Once again the cancer was getting the better of me and informed my employer that I was looking to schedule my next treatment. They informed me I had to take my government medical ei before they would submit my work insurance. I did as they requested of me. They informed me two weeks till the end of my ei that I’d been sick for too long, and I was not eligible for my workers insurance. I tried to fight them on the fact but little guy vs big corporate, good luck with that. Needless to say but my children barely had Christmas. Thanks kal-tire corporate.
I thank my lucky stars I was eligible for cpp disability. I am thankful for every dollar that is give through the cpp program, but it is very little to support a large family. I have since been off work under going stem cell treatment and bone marrow transplant. My family has Sacrificed much more than I ever wished of them. And I can’t thank them enough. Since I left work of last. I sold my two vehicles, quads, sleds tools etc anything not bolted down and worth money. Lol I thought it would’ve been hard to sell my worldly possessions , but to my surprise it was rather easy. As a father my pride was In providing rather than having ( shiny things ) lol. At the moment we might not be wealthy, but the family’s feed everyday, and we still have our home. I am currently undergoing treatment but my doctors have informed me that this is the last treatment I can undergo. They have given me a 40% chance of survival, Although it’s slim but we are still hopeful despite the fact that I stared with a 90% back in 2013.
I find myself scared that I have not been able to create more memorable moments for my children.
I would like to apologize for my grammar and punctuation.
Thank you for anything, if anything thank you for your time.
