I love Joaquin

Joaquin was my roommate, he was a great person. He studied all day and still had time to work, come home, encouraged me to study more, make dinner and still encourage everyone. I love him so much and I am extremely confused as to why he didn't get justice. The drunk-driving officer who killed him was given a measly $50,000 bail, already posted bond, and is free to walk the streets. This isn't fair. Just because he is a police officer doesn't mean he should have been given such a low bail. I would think that as a police officer, he should have been held to a higher standard for someone that ended two promising lives.

Joaquin impacted so many people because of his humble, sweet, generous, loyal spirit. He was a surgical technician and was looking at medical schools. Fabian was an insurance broker, was a very great son, he was generous to everyone. He was very proud of the new car he bought for his family. Neither had the opportunity to live their dreams. And now, two families are devastated. Joaquin's family has to find the money to bury him. This isn't a burden I feel is neccassary for his mother or any mother. Joaquin's family can't afford the funeral cost. They have to cremate him because they don't have funds to bury him. Please donate what you can through this site. I don't want that for Joaquin, he deserved to be buried with respect.

We have organized a vigil for March 18, 2013 on the corner of 26th and Pulaski in Chicago and all are encouraged to attend and meet these great families. This isn't just a vigil to mourn the passing of 2 aspiring members of our community. It is also our opportunity to protest the unfair justice system and Cook County Judge James Brown for giving a killer unjust bail a slap on the wrist just because he was a police officer. We want justice for them, drunk driving isn't fair. Please consider making a donation to defray the funeral costs of the 2 young men and attend the vigil in support of Joaquin and Fabian.
