Penny Press/ New Door Fund

Your donation of a buck or two will go a long ways!
My wife and I opened a candy store in Waldport Oregon called The Chocolate Frog. Our little candy store is nothing  short of a miracle for us as we built it out of nothing with most every expense accomplished from out of pocket funds and amazing friends that helped make it happen.  Due to the market and many other factors I went to work for the last four years as a volunteer bartender/manager at our local Moose lodge. I met my wife at work who was in a bad way as well.  After many years of fund raising events and fraternal activates at The Moose Lodge we were able to leave the lodge in very capable hands and open our store.

The Chocolate Frog has been a positive venture with our little town embracing us. Knowing the struggles we went through just to get the doors open is why I call it a miracle.
We have come up against our next big hurdle. We are looking to raise funds to put in a Penny Press and are also needing a cotton candy machine. So what the heck is a penny press? Well it is a manually operated machine into which the customer pays two quarters and a penny, cranking a wheel the penny is flattened and imprinted with a logo of your company or town. In this case we would be promoting Waldport, Oregon as one option as well as The Chocolate Frog as another. From young to old lots of people like to receive a trinket honoring the memories of their travels.  We would be able to add our shop to a website that shows where all the penny press machines are located. This is another means of helping people find our shop and promoting Waldport. We would be donating most of the funds generated by the Penny Press machine to The Seashore Family Literacy Center. This organization has helped not just our family but hundreds of people on the Oregon coast.
We know these machines are so very expensive but over the years the amount of extra people pulling over and shopping in our little town would make it worth having. The Oregon Coast Aquarium generated over thirty thousand dollars on their penny press machines last year.
Below is a link to one of the penny press manufactures. They seem to run about $6500-$7000

This is just one of the online locations that list locations of penny machine locations.

So what if we don’t make our goal?

This is a list of things we are in need of purchasing:
Cotton Candy Maker                   $500.00
Video and Alarm System            $600.00
Store Product and Venders       $2000.00
Penny Press Machine                   $6500.00-$7000.00
This is just a wish list of things we need. We have been running 7 days a week since we opened. Suprisingly enough we have made it this far but dont have the funds for Christmas this year.
Well we are in great need of a security system along with many other things. Remember we started out of pocket which means we stuck every penny we have into this idea. We were able to get the doors open but didn’t have the bank roll to support us through the long winter or to fully stock the shelves. So any funds will not only help us it will help support Waldport and its many small businesses by generating more foot traffic.
This video was made when we were first trying to get our idea for The Chocolate Frog off the ground. At this point we have been open for just over five months. This video was produced when the business was just an idea.
I am sharing this video to show a little bit about our town and our original business concept.
This is the beginning of our first dream The Chocolate Frog, Our next dream The Penny Press to help put Waldport on the map.

We would like to thank you personally for taking the time to look at this and for helping support our dreams.

Thank you,

Ken and Leslie Hohstadt
