Charlottesville Fencing Alliance (CFA) was formed in 2001 by a group of 6 friends who were surprised to find there was no fencing program in the area for over 70 miles in any direction.
Fencing is a sport that combines the athletic benefits, respect, focus, and concentration of martial arts with the tactical thinking, planning, and strategic skills of chess. In fact it is often called physical chess!
We founded CFA with the goal of bringing awareness of the sport and its benefits to the area at as low a cost as possible and to never turn away participants because of an inability to pay.
Since our humble beginnings, we have produced many Junior Olympians as well as state, regional, and national champions in all three weapons for men and women. We have started 9 school programs, several parks and rec programs in surrounding areas, and have supplied full or partial scholarships to over 70 families through the years.
All of this has been accomplished without need to actively solicit for public donations. However, this year we have a significant budget shortfall that could bring an end to the group as we know it.
It is my sincere hope that the community can come together to help the club through this time of need and allow us to continue the great work we have done.
CFA is incorporated as a non-profit and functions as a federal 501c3 organization. We are happy to issue tax receipts for any donations.
