I-Guy and Scout

Hello & welcome to our page about our family’s newest journey, getting a service dog for our son Isaac. Before we talk about our four-legged buddy, let me share with you about Isaac.

Our son, “I-Guy”, as we lovingly call him, is 8 years old and in the 2nd grade. He’s the most sensitive and creative boy you will ever meet! Isaac has Sensory Processing Disorder, which means he is easily bothered by loud noises, overwhelmed by large groups, distressed by the way clothing feels on his skin and from smells in the air. He also suffers from crippling anxiety. Each day in our home is a struggle due to meltdowns and anxiety attacks.

Isaac’s anxiety has become debilitating as it prevents him from performing everyday tasks like going into the bathroom to brush his teeth, using the restroom, or even going around the corner to put on his shoes. Leaving our sight makes him feel unsafe and anxious. Even with the lights on in his room at night he becomes so panicked he has anxiety attacks if he is alone. This has affected our family greatly as our time and energies go to him mostly but must be shared with our two daughters as well as each other.

Isaac goes to Occupational Therapy two times each week as well as weekly counseling to help us on this journey. We believe that a service dog will help Isaac become more independent and will comfort him from his fears and anxieties.

Isaac was matched with a special buddy, Scout, a red heeler. There was an instant connection. Scout will begin training to help Isaac complete tasks and will even be able to go in a room before him and turn on the light! If Isaac is feeling over overwhelmed at school we will be able to take him for a visit. Scout will learn what triggers Isaac to feel overwhelmed and will be able to calm him before he gets to that point. He will actually be able to accompany Isaac anywhere and everywhere he goes!

We were told that Isaac’s service dog could be ready to come home as early as July. Sometimes it takes up to 18 months so we were very excited we were matched so quickly. We will be doing very extensive training with Scout as well. This has given us hope for an improved life for our I-Guy and our family.

We are sharing this with you because we would love your support. First and foremost we would love your prayers. Also, we will be doing several fundraisers throughout the upcoming months to reach our goal of $6,500. Along with the fundraisers, Isaac has been creating artwork and he would like to sell his pieces to raise money for his service dog.

We will be updating on this page throughout our journey with Scout’s progress, our training, and information about fundraising. So stay tuned! Much love, Mike & Danielle
