Medical Mission to Huancayo, Peru

Donation protected

Hello, Friends and Family

Thank you for checking out my donation page! I am filled with complete joy to announce to all of you my plans for this summer. I have the privilege of traveling to South America to work in the beautiful country of Peru alongside Doctors and other medical staff as part of a Summer Health Fellowship. I will be working the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (FIRMC) to provide medical care to the underserved populations of La Merced in the upper Jungle Region and in the populous city of Huancayo(near the nations capital). This program will give me the unique opportunity to catch a glimpse into growing initiative to have better global medicine, which is ultimately something that I hope I can one day work with.  As a pre-physician assistant student currently, I KNOW that this program will ignite my passion to serve others greater and the cultural understanding I will gain will be irreplaceable and something that I can only get from traveling beyond The States.

I will be living in Peru for one month this summer (May-June, tentatively) with a host family who is gracious enough to have me. The cost of the program (around $4000)  includes airfare, the cost of food(provided by the host family, while the majority of what is left goes to help fund the program. They use it to purchase supplies such as medical equipment and medicine which is not something that the country is able to readible supply to its' citizens.  The money that the program recieves via the support that the Fellows (that's students like me!) raise is vital to the program's success and in bringing good health to people who are in a time of great need.

My heart is burning with excitement as my dreams of one day working in a rural clinic are strangely becoming a reality right before my very eyes. I want to make a difference in this world, not only domestically but on the global platform as well. This program gives me a chance to do so and I am tickled that I, Brooke Mejorado,  am going to be able to go and help these families in Peru. Though the country in the recent has made great strides to provide better healthcare to it's inhabitants, the country is plagued with understaffed and underfunded facilities, which translates into poor health for the people in this region. Peru also has a large population of Indiginous populations who struggle to recieve proper health care.  There are many illness that people have where in worst cases are dying, that are simply straining  from preventable circumstances such as implementation of proper sanitation and healthy lifestyles. But, because the people don't have access to basic medical care and education, this is still the reality for many. The heart of the FIMRC to come alongside these people and serve them is simply incredible and I want to be a part of this.

Not only will I be serving these people, but I will gain clinical expierence that I will carry with me as I enter into Physician's Assistant school and well beyond there, into the rest of my life. A sample itinerary of what a week could include:

I can't thank you enough for checking out my donation page and following me in my journey through life. All financial contributions are tax-deductible and are greatly appreciated by not only myself, but the families of Peru who this will go to support. Besides financial contributions, I will need a plentiful supply of prayers as I prepare to travel to South America, for safety, and to prepare my heart for all of the families I encounter. I pray for opportunity to be able to share with them the Love in Jesus Christ, which is what ultimately fuels me to have these passions to love on people. I thank you all so much, you are loved. Blessings to you and Thank you in advance!
