Support the Building of a Cultural Center for the Youth of Soma


My name is Goncagul, and I am committed to raising $5,000 by January 16, 2015 for Turkiye Yardim Sevenler Dernegi (Turkish Philanthropic Association), a charity organization located in Turkey and fully dedicated to changing the lives of many for 86 years, in building a youth cultural center in Soma, Turkey.


Soma, a mining town in Turkey, was recently devastated when, on May 13, 2014, a tragic mine accident killed 301 men, shattering the lives of manyfamilies with young children still in school who are now in need of financial support.



In the wake of such tragedy, Turkiye Yardim Sevenler Dernegi is seeking to aid the Soma community by building a cultural center, set to open in mid-February 2015, for the children of these families that will offer programs designed to enhance academic and personal skills that promote social interaction. The center will be a warm and compassionate space for these children to come together while also providing valuable resources to aid in the healing process, including

~engaging, high-quality after school programs including tutoring, reading clubs, homework help, music, dance, fitness, and theater; and

~life skills training designed to assist in coping with grief and increase self-esteem and confidence.




It is my belief that everyone deserves a new beginning. These young people have been through a lot, losing their loved ones in a very tragic accident. This cultural center will make a difference in many lives, helping these young people to cope with their loss and giving these families the opportunity to rebuild their lives.
