WHAT IS NMUN?
National Model United Nations is the largest collegiate United Nations simulation in the world. It is an international conference held in New York hosted by the United Nations in which over 5,000 students from more than 40 countries represent the United Nations’ Member States in an effort to find solutions to some of the most pressing issues facing the international community.
PAST CONFERENCES
Western has competed in two conferences: 2014 & 2015. In 2014, six student delegates represented Macedonia throughout the conference and sat on six different committees aiming to resolve key global issues ranging from nuclear terrorism, to resource scarcity and gender equality. The Western delegation was one of the only two Colorado universities to participate in the conference and it brought back two Outstanding Position Paper awards, and an Honorable Delegation award. In 2015, twelve student delegates represented North Korea and Jordan. It brought back five Outstanding Position Paper awards, and an Honorable Delegation award.
WHY PARTICIPATE?
NMUN is designed to present students with an opportunity to engage in the fields of politics, business, communication, English, and international relations. It provides practical experience in diplomacy, negotiation, interpersonal communication, legislative research and writing, and leadership skills. It is a unique way to engage people with different backgrounds and ideologies and work together to reach unique solutions to complex problems. NMUN provides a unique opportunity for students at Western.
2016 CONFERENCE
The increased interest and support in Model UN has allowed us to expand the program to include 12 students for the upcoming 2016 conference. We are building a team that will represent the Western student and take the Western name outside of the Gunnison Valley and build a strong presence in this international academic conference. We will continue to strive for excellence in representing our university and community, providing unique opportunities for students, and enhancing the mission of Western State Colorado University.
FUNDRAISING
This year we need to raise more money to be able to send students to participate in this amazing opportunity. Please help us travel to New York City and enable us to have life-changing experiences. Thank you for your continued support.
