Please join me to bring a free exercise program to over 13,000 youth!
The Center for Well-Being is a local nonprofit committed to empowering health and wellness for all. We are raising money to support iDo26.2, an innovative and evidence-based run/walk program that is proven to yield the long-term benefits of decreased obesity, increased high school completion, and improved mental health.
Over the course of the academic year, elementary students run the equivalent of a full marathon, or 26.2 miles. Completing this challenge teaches kids the benefit of goal-setting, endurance, and commitment. Equally important, the program inspires an attachment to regular physical activity as a healthy habit for life.
Childhood obesity is a national epidemic, and 36% of Sonoma County children are overweight - leading to an increased risk for diabetes and other chronic disease. However, due to funding cuts schools are shrinking their physical activity programs. Many of the children we serve have no other healthy outlet for physical play, and iDo26.2 is their only formal exercise program.
The Center for Well-Being operates iDo26.2 in 69 schools in Sonoma County, and this year over 13,000 youth will run equivalent to a marathon! While the program only costs $4 per child per year, we rely 100% on donations and we need your support to continue this innovative and free program.
