Help Us Rehabilitate Spotty!

Please help us give Spotty  a chance at life!

This is a life-or-death matter. We need funds to get Spotty  a consult and two-weeks of socialization/rehabilitation training and therapy with Brandon Fouche, a Los Angeles trainer and canine rehabilitation expert. This is very expensive and beyond what I can afford for him.

Spotty  is a homeless dog rescued off of the streets of Ocean Beach (see his story, below). He has poor social skills - dog and human. If Spotty doesn't get this chance at behavior rehab, we fear that we will have to euthanize him. He is a one-year-old, beautiful dog.

My name is Alice D'Amore , and I am a small animal veterinarian in San Diego with a very soft spot for terrier and bully breeds (I've rescued several). When I rescued Spotty in September, he was emaciated and bleeding. A dog had attacked him that morning, and his young, homeless owner could not pay for his treatment. The shelters and rescues were full, so if I did not rescue him, euthanasia would have been his fate.

Spotty  is a one-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier cross. He arrived at the clinic with a pretty severe laceration on his shoulder, and he was intact.  I was able to surgically repair his laceration and castrate him as well as clear him of all gastrointestinal parasites and update his vaccines. He is now physically healthy.

We have been training with Spotty  for nearly three months - he arrived in our home with absolutely no manners and a terrible fear of our five cats. We crate and potty-trained him. Through positive reinforcement and correction training, we have been slowly molding him into the best dog that he can be, but he needs aggressive help in order to place him in a home with other animals and to correct his fear aggression toward other dogs and strange people.

OUR PRIMARY GOAL IS TO MAKE SPOTTY  AN ADOPTABLE DOG. In his current state, Spotty is fearful of other dogs and people and lacks the social skills to make the correct decisions. Hence, for the past three months, we have been guiding those decisions for him. We work with him for several hours nightly after work, and we have made progress, just not enough. Because of the fact that we currently have five rescued cats, a rescued pit bull and another rescued American Staffordshire terrier, we have exhausted our resources (and I am merely a veterinarian, not a behaviorist/trainer). We have already invested more than $1,000.00 in his care to date. We need help. Now. It will break my heart to have to euthanize this beautiful, young dog because we cannot place him due to his issues. Rehabilitation is our last chance for him. Can you help?
