With the end of the 2019 US Nationals, a new season is here. But first a quick recap. Last season was a great season for me. Niki and I got together on May 14th 2018, and trained at Burnaby, BC Canada at the Burnaby 8 Rinks. We were coached by Megan Wing and Aaron Lowe.

Our first competition we got to represent the US at the 2018 Lake Placid Ice Dance International. Getting to skate for the US instead of only for my club in the US was a first for me, and had long since been a goal of mine.

Next we competed at the 2018 Belair Direct Super Series BC Summerskate at our rink in Canada (We skated for our clubs here, not for USA). Getting to compete outside of the US was another first for me.

After this we did the 2018 PSCHS Challenge Cup, and got 65.42 in our free dance. Breaking 65 points in the free dance was another first for me.

Finally we competed at the 2019 US Nationals, and our Rhythm Dance wasn't our strongest, and were in 12 place, last. We were 3 points behind 11th place and 5 points behind 10th place. But we rallied and came back strong in the Free Dance and took 10th. Taking 10th made me feel like we had just won Nationals, as that is my highest placement at Nationals to date.

Earlier in the season, Niki told me that she would be moving on after US Nationals. She was really professional about it in giving, me an early heads up, and I was able to make plans contingency plans.

Niki will be taking over my students in Bellingham, so they will have continuity. As for me, I really love Megan and Aaron. They are the reason for all of our successes this season, especially Aaron. We had a limited budget, we mostly worked with him. I would have stayed to keep working with them, as their brilliance is hard to put into words. And anyone who works with them long enough, finds success.

But I can't compete at US Nationals alone, I need a dance partner. And there is no one I could compete with in the area. So when I was told that our season will be over after Nationals, I contacted my last year's partner Ashley Bain to see if she is interested in skating together again.

As you may recall, we got together mere weeks before the deadline to qualify for US Nationals last year, and managed to test and qualify in time. I was sad that our partnership ended so soon as there is lots of room for growth and long term potential with Ashley and I. So I am really happy to announce that Ashley and I will be getting back together. Stay tuned!!
