Standing With Those Who Stood For Us

Dear friends in the Iranian diasporic community,
As many of you may know, the four of us have been involved in a legal case with the Iranian Canadian Congress in order to bring civility, transparency and lawfulness to this important organization in our community. Unfortunately, an organization which was supposed to be the pillar of unity in our community had turned into the biggest source of tension and disunity over the past few years. The ICC board’s lack of transparency and insistence on their non-compliance with the law left us no choice but to refer our position to the Canadian legal system. We brought this case before the Superior Court of Ontario on March 21, 2019. The case has seen many ups and downs since then, including a conditional settlement in September 2019 whose main goal was the establishment of a neutral and legal framework in which the community can participate in the next ICC AGM under the supervision of a court-appointed monitor with full and final authority.
We believed that the board had entered the conditional settlement in good faith and with full commitment to its contents. Unfortunately, recent developments have demonstrated an apparent lack of good will by the board whose mandate had ended last April. Instead of putting their best efforts to accommodate the court ordered AGM, the board has yet again deployed delay tactics and the use of misinformation. This has led to an extended legal battle which has imposed unnecessary costs on the organization and the applicants.
On our side, the case has been funded by our personal sources as well as around 100 community members who have believed in the cause and contributed to it in whatever way they can. We have now reached a point where we feel we have to expand our base of support and this is why we are reaching out to you. We have created this GoFundMe platform to facilitate the contributions of our friends and supporters. Please consider making a donation and then start sharing it with your network. We know that money can be tight, so please know that even $50 helps us get closer to our goal!
This is not a case for the four of us. This is a case for the community. You can help us bring the long-needed change to the organization whose primary goal is to protect the interests of Iranian Canadians. A diverse, democratic, transparent and truly non-partisan ICC can set the right example for other Iranian community organizations in the diaspora. Together, we can make a difference!
