The 2017 Gala will celebrate the Indo-Caribbean heritage as we commemorate 100 years after the end of indentureship in the Caribbean. The period of indentureship in the Caribbean was plagued with oppression and struggles for indentured laborers but it also was a period of time that showed the resilience of a courageous people who never stopped fighting for their rights and refused to abandon their roots. Throughout their struggle, indentured laborers held fast to the rich culture and stories of their ancestors while never losing sight of their dream of a better life. They have since passed on a legacy filled with fearless motivation and unstoppable courage in a new generation who is proud of their Indo-Caribbean heritage and culture. For our fifth annual gala, ICA proudly invites you to celebrate this legacy with an evening featuring a dazzling display of Indo-Caribbean influenced décor and formal wear, a full three course meal, cocktails, and music and dancing with influences deeply rooted in both East India and the Caribbean.
Indo-Caribbean Alliance, Inc. (ICA) is a U.S registered 501(c)3, tax exempt nonprofit organization. We run the only secular community center for Caribbean communities in New York City. The event will continue to promote awareness of ICA's robust and vital community programs, services, and advocacy that have benefitted thousands of New York City's underserved residents over the last five years.
All proceeds from the gala directly benefit ICA's youth, immigration and civic advocacy programs and services.
