I have made it 28 years on this lovely Earth and have not traveled outside the country..for many reasons (fear of flying, heights, lack of funds) and now I have an opportunity to fulfill that dream I have had and travel to another country. Not only will I experience something new but I will be doing something else that I love- working with children.
4 years ago, Haiti experienced a tremendous tragedy. A very powerful earthquake hit and destroyed the land and took many lives. One of those lives being a 19 year old American student named Britney Gengel. Britney's dream was to build an orphanage in Haiti and in her memory, her family did just that. Now, years later the foundation Be Like Brit provides opportunities to travel to Haiti and volunteer. If I can raise enough money for travel expenses, I would spend August 22nd-29th, 2015 in Haiti. My mornings will be spent building a home for a family in need and some afternoons are spent working in the Orphanage or local public clinic, the remaining time is spent with the children.
The total cost for the trip is $1750 and includes In-country transportation, food, lodging, interpreter services, experienced group leader, travel insurance, and round-trip airfare. As many of you know, I am in my last year of Graduate school and completing an unpaid internship so money is tight. Any extra money I raise will go to the Be Like Brit Organization! I
