The IBR Hub: more birds, more space

We are very excited to announce the next phase of growth and expansion for Iowa Bird Rehabilitation: the IBR Hub!

Each year IBR grows, and as we grow, we require more structured spaces for proper operations. The new IBR hub will be a central connecting point for all operations. The IBR hub will connect outdoor aviaries, indoor aviaries, storage, volunteer office, nursery, medical, fledgling building, and kitchen. The IBR hub will offer a space for volunteers to perform non-bird related projects and provide a rodent-proof area for the storage of food and supplies. This new building will help us to keep improving our ability to rescue, rehab, and release the over 1600 birds we admit each year.

In addition to the new building, we will also be improving our work area by laying a new pathway between all working buildings. This will not only improve safety for our volunteers but keep the workspaces cleaner during inclement weather.

The number of birds we admit increases every year, and with that increase also comes an increased need for storage of food donations, various caging and housing options, and medical and cleaning supplies. Currently, the extra supplies are stored in the bird care areas, so by having a designated storage area, we can utilize the space just for birds undergoing rehabilitation.

Iowa Bird Rehabilitation is a nonprofit, volunteer-based organization whose goal is to recover, rehabilitate and release orphaned and injured wild birds in the state of Iowa. We are licensed through the Iowa DNR and have a federal permit through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
