I BIKE Dublin

Donation protected

We are I BIKE Dublin, a group of ordinary people who live and work in and around Ireland's capital.

Born from frustration over a lack of enforcement by local authorities and An Garda Síochána and inspired by the recent incarnation of this form of direct action in San Francisco, we came together to protect our city's few mandatory cycle lanes from abuse by motorists.

Since that fateful day in June, I BIKE Dublin has rapidly expanded its reach. Through collaboration with our friends in Cyclist.ie, Dublin Cycling Campaign, Safe Cycling Ireland and Cycling Without Age, our message and our actions are being seen and heard across Irish, international and social media.

We are slowly but surely making progress:

- The vigil held outside Leinster House has prompted action from some politicians to address the true source of danger to people while cycling: https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/fianna-f%C3%A1il-says-it-will-extend-the-distance-to-overtake-cyclists-1.3301504

- St. Andrew's Street (one of our earliest action locations) is now protected by wands to prevent illegal parking: https://twitter.com/ciaranhandley/status/943096929512312832

- In the run up to Christmas, we claimed that we could catch more people illegally parking in cycle lanes during just one week in Dublin than all of An Garda Síochána managed in a year across the whole country. We delivered: https://twitter.com/IBIKEDublin/status/943060706613694464

- An Garda Síochána are now enforcing cycle lanes in some city centre locations: https://twitter.com/GardaTraffic/status/942723604910891010

Our weekly actions are continuing as usual (apart from a short break for Christmas) and we need your help!

The best way for you to do so is to volunteer at our actions and lobby your politicians to support us and/or our goals. However, we know that this is not possible for everyone.

Our democratic organisation does not have a formal membership structure, so we do not charge membership fees. This is why we are now asking for donations from anyone who would like to support us.

We have big plans for 2018 and we need money to fund:

- Branded clothes.

- Branded stickers.

- Branded bike accessories.

- Printing and storage media for submissions of evidence to An Garda Síochána.

- Signs, lights and various bits and bobs that we use at our actions. A few of our lights were destroyed by a Dublin Bus at our most recent action!

- Some secret projects that are in the works. ;)

We haven't taken donations before, but we have already decided to be completely open and transparent about everything we do with them. All information such as total donation funds remaining and scans/screenshots of receipts will be made public on our social media feeds, so you will know exactly where the money is going.

I BIKE Dublin is hard
- our core volunteers work and/or study full-time and it sometimes feels like we volunteer full-time as well. That is the way it will stay, though. We truly believe in what we are doing. Financial donations will just make it easier for us to continue to grow.

Thanks a million for your time - and for your donation, if you decide to give. Every little bit of support keeps us going.

Go raibh míle maith agat as do chuid ama - agus as do thabhartas, má tá cinneadh déanta agat airgead a thabairt. Is beag rud nach gcuidíonn agus is mór againn an tacaíocht a thugtar dúinn.
