<div>According to the World Health Organization, Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in both developed and undeveloped countries. Of the 458,000 Breast cancer deaths each year, 269,000 of those deaths occur in middle to lower-income countries because women do not have access to early screening and treatment. The World Health Organization recommends education on early signs and symptoms, clinical breast exams, and mammography where available, as detection strategies. In many countries where preventative programs and education have not been undertaken, the task seems insurmountable.

<div>The International Breast Cancer Surgical Mission (IBCSM) was founded in 2012 in response to a global need. IBCSM, led by Dr. Edna Kapenhas and in partnership with Island Impact Ministries, has been providing preventative breast cancer care for the first time on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic for over a decade. The team will be volunteering in the Dominican Republic to help others in need this upcoming March!
