<div>Iara lost a 6-week pregnancy. A week later, she went into crisis, and we called 911 because we only wanted her taken to the hospital. Instead, Malden police held her for 6 hours. When they released her, ICE was already at the door and took her into custody.

<div>Now Iara is locked up, hungry, cold, and living with a fear I had never seen in her. On the other side of all this, her 6-year-old son is without his mother and keeps asking why she isn’t coming home. I don’t have an answer that hurts less.

<div>I’m doing everything I can: making calls, chasing down a lawyer, losing nights of sleep, and refusing to give up. But this kind of case is expensive, and without a defense, time keeps passing while she remains far from home.
