Ian's Cancer Fight & A Fundraiser Foot Pursuit

In March 2019, Sgt. Ian Brown (Shield # 269), a decorated 23 year veteran of The City of Willimantic Police Department, was diagnosed with monomorphic epitheliotropic intestinal T cell lymphoma. For those of you who are unaware, this form of cancer is very rare and extremely aggressive. After numerous consultations with medical staff at Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital and Hartford Hospital, his wife (Tracie) advised us that Ian will need to undergo multiple rounds of chemotherapy. She also informed us that Ian will need to undergo a bone marrow transplant in order to have a fighting chance.  

The Willimantic Police Benevolent Association and its membership, stands behind their own and the city they proudly serve. With that being said, Ian and Tracie have a special connection to Newport, RI.  On Sunday May 5th, 2019, in honor of Ian's fight, Willimantic Police Officer Ryan Jones (Shield # 341) has volunteered to run (AKA: The Foot Pursuit) from Newport, RI to Willimantic, CT in one day. The planned route is a total of 69 miles in honor of Sgt. Brown's Shield number (269). 

As Ofc. Jones reaches the finish line back home, the PBA is hosting a welcoming benefit at Blarney's Cafe "starting at 3 P.M." (49 High Street Willimantic, CT 06226).
