I'M NOT BALD, I AM BOLD

Donation protected
"I'm not bald, I AM bold" campaign is a movement whose mission is to celebrate, encourage and support females of all ages, who experience hair loss due to various reasons (e.g. cancer (chemo treatments), alopecia, lupus, post traumatic stress disorder and etc.).

This movement is very near and dear to me as I myself loss all of my hair due to post traumatic stress in 2012 after having two brain surgeries to stabilize a cerebral brain aneurysm.  The experience was extremely violating, unexpected and horrific.  I was left feeling embarrassed, ashamed, insecure and unpretty due to something beyond my control.  I saw several doctors and specialists and they all told me the likelihood of my hair ever returning was slim to none.  But, thank God, my hair did not adhere to the diagnosis; it grew back.

Nevertheless, I remember what it feels like to hear my hair fall to the shower floor like bricks, without notice, warning or my consent...it just happened.  I remember chunks of my hair coming out in the palm of my hands whenever I would touch it.  I remember the hopeless diagnosis.  I remember the pain of looking in to the mirror.  I remember the headaches and pain from the pressure and tightness of wearing a wig out of necessity, not choice.  I remember going out in public and feeling paranoid because I thought everyone was watching me and noticing I was wearing a wig.  I remember the anxiety attacks from feeling the wind blowing so hard that it almost blew my wig off in public.  I remember feeling alone and like no one truly understood.  I remember those who love me say things like "you are not your hair" and "it's only hair" and thinking to myself and saying to some "easy for you to say."  No one can really relate or understand until they stand under those conditions.  Because I remember I'm launching this movement to undergird and uplift those who walk a similar path I did, to highlight their beauty on the outside to reflect that which lives on the inside, assisting them in feeling as they should...beautiful in their own skin.  It takes boldness to fight against the odds of a disease and a society that equates hair with beauty.  Gone maybe the hair, but they/we are STILL here!

This year for our launch we will be providing a few ladies with a complimentary professional makeover and photo-shoot, tshirt, food and gift bags.  If you would like to donate to the cause please feel free to, no amount is too small...$1 nor a $100 could exist without a penny.  Prayers are greatly appreciated as well. Thank you in advance for your support.

Boldfully beautiful,

April M. Drew
