Mina Katherine & Elizabeth Ann

Donation protected
On Saturday, November 29, 2014, on their way back from visiting Aaron's parents in Kansas, Anya went into premature labor. They went immediately to a hospital in Kansas City, KS, where their precious daughters Elizabeth “Elle” Ann and Mina Katherine were born by emergency C-section, weighing only 1 lb, 3 oz each.

They were taken to the neonatal intensive care unit. At only 23 weeks, 2 days gestation, their lungs were severely underdeveloped, and they were put on ventilators and given feeding tubes. At this stage, they are considered extremely premature. Click here  to see their stage in fetal development.

Sunday morning, November 30th, it was determined that Mina was not responding to the treatments. She was removed from her incubator so that Aaron and Anya could hold her, tell her how much they loved her, and say goodbye. She was baptized, and she passed away in her father's arms , surrounded by the great love for which she was named.

While they are heartbroken at the loss of Mina, Elizabeth is stable, though she is still at great risk. They ask for your prayers as they grieve Mina’s loss and hope for Elizabeth’s future.

In the coming days and weeks, they will need lots of love and support. It is not possible to move Elizabeth in such a fragile and vulnerable state, so they may be there in Kansas indefinitely. Cnn.com reports  that the average cost for a premature's baby's care in the first year is $49,000. Funds raised through this site will help to cover the expenses of the treatments and costs associated with their stay in Kansas, especially being so far from home.

They are so grateful for your love and support. Thank you for your generosity.
