My name is John Wesley Simmons,
I am a Junior at Cumberland University in Lebanon TN.
I'm a Theater major with a minor in vocal performance. All in all I'm a pretty normal guy.

Well,
That was until I received some pretty abnormal news. A few months ago I began to notice a lump on my neck and found out that my lymph node was swollen. Thinking it was just a sinus infection I went about it like any other cough or cold and didn't think much of it. Then I lost the hearing in my right ear almost completely and was talked into going to an ENT by my loving and caring friends and family. . .
Things got a little weird after that, before I knew it there was a multitude of scans and doctors appointments.
Then all of a sudden a doctor is telling me I have a tumor in my nasal passageways, well something like that.

Then he drops the C word??
What! No.. I just have some junk in my ear, I'm just a 21 year old guy who just celebrated his birthday! Well, unfortunately it wasn't corn in my ear. I had heard him just fine, I went from being excited about the newest video game to having to prep for Chemo treatments and pulling out teeth to get ready for radiation.
My life got turned upside-down so violently fast that I still can't tell which way is up!

But, if I've learned anything from this it's that I have many around me who are rooting for me and want to see me punch cancer in the face! Well... Not punching myself in the face... I think you get it.
Many things come with getting told news like this, hurt, worry, stress, and friends.
That's why I'm making this page,
many people are asking me "What can we do?" or "What do you need?"
Love, care, and a little help from you!

Since my diagnosis I’ve been trying to think of what would help and I'm going to be completely honest because I don't believe in tricking or misleading people. I've had a dream since around this time last year...
It's to own an Xbox One!
I know I know it may seem a little childish which is why I didn't seek after it when it originally came out. Well after you get told that you'll be spending some quality time with your pillow and blanket you think of things that might make the process of it all go a little smoother. Bills are starting to come in and I don't have the money to acquire this powerhouse of awesomeness myself, so when someone told me I should make a gofundme at first I was hesitant... But after a few more requests I decided I should follow my dream because there are many around me to help support me even with something like this!

Of course this isn't all fun and games,
The other reason for this page is a place where you can donate to help me and my parents through this process.
Unfortunately medical treatment costs a little more than any of us want to admit.
So this is a page made to come together!
Friends, family, and even strangers! We're all running this race we call life and if there's anything I've learned it’s that two shoulders are stronger than one and things are starting to get heavy.

Since this is concerning money I'll give you some cold hard facts. The Xbox One I'm looking to hold in my hands costs $500. Then adding in the possibility of a Kinect for the Xbox is around $75, and then add games and a controller or two so I can play with friends and family that are going to be visiting me through this you can see why I would reach out for a little help! Do these people really think a college student can afford this... Are they aware that my diet consisted of Ramen and Taco Bell..?

With that being said,
That is only one of my goals. I would love to see the ways this site can help my friends and the community reach out and help us through these trying times.
I want to personally say thank you for even taking the time to read this, your support is what helps all of us here going through this trial be able to look forward with smiles on our faces because we know we're loved!

Honestly and Sincerely,

John Wesley Simmons
