Fund for DuWayne Reade

I am requesting help for a wonderful family.  Although, they are not my family by blood, they are my family.  Mary and DuWayne have always treated me like I was their daughter, and although they won’t ask for help directly, I am trying to get them the help that they need so much.

Let me start with a little history of what’s been going on, although all of this is happening so fast.  Back in August DuWayne was having some chest pains and breathing problems and went to get them checked out.  After a bunch of x-rays and testing they found that he had a softball sized mass in his lung.  They did a biopsy and determined that it was cancerous and could not be removed surgically.  After CT Scans and PET scans they found that the cancer had spread throughout his body, his legs, his torso, etc.  They determined the only way to proceed was an experimental chemotherapy treatment.

At first it seemed as if this treatment were helping.  The masses were shrinking and he felt good on the days following the treatment.  Lately, things have been getting worse.  He’s been getting dizzy and disoriented and can’t be left alone.  This has caused Mary to not be able to go to work which has been detrimental to their income.  He has been in and out of the hospital with complications from the cancer and treatments and the medical bills and ambulance costs are continuing to grow.

They have now determined that there is no further treatment that will be beneficial to him.  He is being sent home from the hospital and they are calling in hospice to help with the transition.  The hospital has advised that the family speak to the funeral homes and set up the arrangements in advance to make it easier.  The funeral home won’t begin without a $1,300 down payment.  This amount is hard to come up with at such short notice, especially with the lack of income because Mary has not been able to work for weeks.  The funeral expenses will be more than $10,000 and they have no life insurance to cover it.

Please consider helping out this family in their time of need.  They are struggling dealing with the emotions of a terminally ill husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.  They are a wonderful family that will pull you in as one of their own.  They treat you like you are their children.  I know this from experience.  I’m just a friend of their daughter who they’ve always treated like one of their own.  Please consider donating something.  Every little bit helps.

Thanks for reading and God bless.
