Close Up: Hubbard's D.C. trip

Each year, as co-coaches, Mr. Shunt and I have the privilege of working with dedicated students on our Academic Decathlon Team. We basically ask them to add a whole other class to their already crammed class load and extra-curricular activities. As a great big "thank you for your hard work" our school sponsors a trip to Washington D.C. through an organization called Close-Up.  As explained on their website,

"Close Up’s flagship High School Program is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for students to experience their government in action. From visits to Washington’s famous monuments, memorials, and institutions, to meetings with their Congressional delegation on Capitol Hill, Close Up students get a first-hand look at the American political system and consider what role they, as students, play in our democracy."

The program allows the students to see and learn about democracy in action as they explore D.C. with students from all over the country. They have a jam-packed, rigorous and rewarding schedule everyday. Each year our students give the trip rave reviews.

This year, due to budgetary concerns, we were allocated less money than previous years. We have to make up half our budget. That means that the students need to fundraise. The students have agreed to cover some of the costs, but as team we need to raise the difference.  

We would appreicate any help you can offer. The money will be used to pay for the trip, which includes air, hotel, attractions; the entire program!
