My story so far...
I was diagnosed with a choriocarcinoma at the end of December 2019 following surgery to remove a tumour on my left adrenal gland. This is a rare cancer, usually found in pregnant women and I'm a man! As such it is very unusual in men and when it does occur in men, it is usually in the testicles and there has been success treating it with chemotherapy. A choriocarcinoma in an adrenal gland of a man is even more rare, my consultant tells me I'm the only bloke with it in the UK, potentially in the World, and as such the effectiveness of chemo by itself isn't really known - it is that unusual!
I started a course of chemo on 3rd February and my markers are being monitored by a weekly blood test. The marker for this cancer is the pregnancy hormone, HCG, and we want it to be under 5. It began to rise again on 17th February from 17 to 23 on 2nd March. This might suggest that the chemo isn't working as well as we hoped and we need more options hence this Go Fund Me appeal.
What we need to action immediately with my tumour sample is a CARIS Molecular Intelligence Profile. This will suggest other treatments to go alongside the chemo and hopefully attack the cancer cells from all fronts.

The cost of testing isn't covered by NHS or insurance, and in all likelihood neither will the drugs and treatments that the CARIS profiling recommends hence this GOFUNDME campaign.
My family and I are hoping to fund the testing, the treatment that follows and relieve any other impact on my life that results from this.
