I'm having a GROWN UP Bat Mitzvah!

Over the last few years, I've been immersed and welcomed into Jewish communities thanks to my history, my books and my connection to 'Fiddler on the Roof.' It's been an illuminating and profound experience to meet Jewish communities around the country, make real connections with people, and experience the feeling of contributing meaningfully.

However! As a person with a secular upbringing, I sometimes feel like a bit of an interloper, and as I grow up I recognize that I want to dive deeper, to understand more thoroughly, and ultimately give myself the gift of an official Jewish identity! L'Chaim. I don't need a big fancy wedding (let's face it I got "married" on the Tony Awards), this is my personal "wedding day" ceremony if you will.

I have found and started working with some amazing feminist Reform Rabbis here in New York, and the weekly lessons plus the ceremony prep cost money. I'd consider it a great honor to get your help with my personal spiritual project.

Everything will go to paying my awesome Rabbi, tutors, lessons, for the Mikvah (the dunk!) and for the ceremony.  I will donate any surplus to the wonderful ACLU.
