I Want to Help Molly

I Want to Help Molly!

Go Fund Me is an easy way for anyone to help.

Backstory of the Barista from the Allegro:

Molly broke her neck three weeks ago, falling down the cement stairs that connect Capital Hill to Eastlake.  She came to in the ambulance, screaming its way to the ER at Harborview. She suffered a concussion, bruising, multiple abrasions, and a head wound. The kicker is the neck fracture, leaving her with severely limited mobility and wearing a padded neck brace that covers half her face.

Her day in the ER included an EKG, trauma blood panel, two neck x rays, chest, pelvic and knee x rays, CT scans, and lots of etc.’s.  Like most of us, Molly depends on a paycheck to survive. She has no medical insurance; accidents are expensive: her zippy trip in an ambulance cost $970.00.  She needs funds now for her current medical bills, and she will continue to need  x-rays and Dr. visits for the coming months.

Molly had planned to be back at work by now.  Her doctor has put the brakes on twice, but she is determined to get her health and her life back. (She is excited to resume training for a half marathon race. ) Molly wants to be well enough to be back at work in April, but has been living without a paycheck for many weeks. She is currently confronting the challenges and consequences of living without a safety net.  A young woman of color, Molly has been working an interim job as a barista while spending last fall and winter going through the torture of applying to PhD programs.  Attempting to heal while stressing about money is the most pressing of her current challenges.

Who the hell am I to be doing this, anyway?

I'm Pat Pedersen, and I've been going to the Allegro since it opened 40 years ago. I met Molly  last year and we have since become friends.  My struggles, two generations ago, differ widely from how young adults live now.  Money was always an issue but I didn’t fear my daughter and I would become homeless if I got sick and couldn’t work.

I invite you to help Molly out. All donations go directly into her bank account through PayPal.  Please share this with your friends and colleagues.  No amount is too small …or too big…  Even if you can’t donate, please spread the word on your social networks to encourage others to help.

Updates will be posted.
