I Spartan Race for Armenian Children
Hello friends! I'm Eric Markarian and I love to Spartan Race! I have completed a number of Spartan Races over the past 3 years and have achieved Trifecta metals. A Trifecta is achieved upon completing 3 different level races, the Sprint, the Super, and the Beast, in one calendar year. These high-level races are incredibly challenging and involve a series of obstacle courses of varying distance and difficulty, ranging from 3 miles to 15+ miles, and can take up to 8-9 hours.
Participating in these races is not an easy feat. This year I plan to run these races not for fulfilling my personal goals, but competitively for the children of Armenia who lost their father's in the Artsakh border war. And because these families continue to deal with life challenges each day, I plan to challenge myself and run EACH race TWO times in the same day. Something I never thought I would consider before hearing these families inspiring stories.
What Happened at the Border?
On April 2, 2016, Azerbaijan launched a large scale, unprovoked and coordinated series of attack's along the entire Nagorno-Karabakh border. The militaries and citizens of Armenia successfully stopped the Azeri offensive, however it came at a high cost.
Nearly 100 Armenian soldiers, officers and volunteers lost their lives, leaving many families - 61 children under the age of 18 -without a breadwinner. These kids will never see their father's again. The Diaspora for Frontline Families Fund (DFFF) was established to help ease the financial burden forced upon the children and families of these fallen heroes. DFFF has committed to provide each child an annual donation of $250 until they are 18 years old. The money helps provide a predictable source of income that is used for school supplies, clothing, and other essentials that are so easy to take for granted living in the US.
Please consider that many of these children live in border or rural villages where a small amount of money can go a long way. Please join me and this dedicated committee to help make a difference for these children and their families! Thank you.
My Races:
May 11th - Spartan Sprint. Run 2 times will be approximately 8 miles and 40 obstacles
August 10th - Spartan Super. 2 times will be approx 18 miles and 52 obstacles
September 13th - Ultra Beast In Killingtion VT will be 30 miles and 68 obstacles. This race might take me 18 hours
