I Run For Brisket

Donation protected
On August 13, 2017, I lost my first dog.

Growing up, I didn't have a dog. So I never knew the warmth, joy and amazing comfort they can bring people until my late teen years.

But Brisket gave me that. He showed me a whole new side of this poetic life.

Some people don't understand that these animals become a part of your family. And that's too bad. Because they're missing out.

And now, my first actual dog, my dog that I actually raised and called my own, the one who helped me through college, broken hearts, and enjoyed bright, beautiful times with me throughout my twenties, is now gone. I grieve, because I love animals. The innocence they have and the beautiful spirits they share with us are too often taken for granted. But I won't take that for granted. I won't sit here and let his spirit darken and fade like a dying fire.

Fire represents passion, and I have a passion for animals. I plan to keep that fire lit, for both me and Little B, for all animals who aren't as fortunate as my puppy.

My boy never knew a life of abuse, hunger or pain. He never knew a cold night, a perpetually empty stomach or unimaginable cruelty that this world, and my fellow man, can dole out.

So I want other dogs, other creatures of God, to see that same beauty in this world.

That's why I run for Brisket. I run for my boy.

Please donate what you can as I train for the McAllen Marathon, held on January 21, 2018. Every mile, drop of sweat, agonizing step, and replenishing or labored breath during the run will be for Brisket. He was the cutest contributor to the man I am today.

At the end of the race, I will donate half of the money raised to the Palm Valley Animal Center, in McAllen, Texas - located in the city where Brisket was born and passed - and then I will get in my truck, drive to the Texas Hill Country and donate the other half to the Humane Society of Uvalde - the city where Brisket is buried.

Not one cent will be used for anything else. And I will make sure not one penny is used to euthanize pets for lack of space or other inexcusable reasons.

Stray and housed animals are abused and neglected every day. Join me in using Brisket's spirit, his death, and his memory to make sure we save as many animals as we can from the evil this world offers. Because for how much evil there is out there, there's much more good. I believe it. And Brisket's life proved it.

For my animal lovers out there who knew Brisket, do it for him. For animal lovers who didn't, do it for an animal you lost or fear losing one day. Your animal had or has your protection, so let's help protect others.

Donate today and let's give back to all of God's creatures - in Brisket's memory.

Please share this and get more and more people on board. Whoever donates, I will make sure to recognize them on a special shirt I will custom order for the race.

These donations to these organizations  may be a drop in the bucket, but every drop counts.

PS. I also want to mention my friend and brother Celso Mireles, who passed away this month. His passion for social issues most important to him, including immigration rights, was inspiration for me to do something and take action for an issue close to my heart. Thank you for showing me a different side of life, brother.
