After School Program

Please Donate to a worthy cause!  Help me start an Afterschool Program in my community of Brooklyn, NY.  The aftercare facility aim will be to help kids stay off the street and away from gang activity.   We will focus on helping kids improve their reading ability, by building a Book Club.  We want to be a place where kids can get help with Math and Science.  Additionally, we want to have a Drama Club, where kids can be creative, imagine and grow.

Does participation in afterschool programs make a difference?
Improved academic performance: A 2006 meta-analysis synthesizing 35 out-ofschool time (OST) afterschool program studies, conducted by Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL) with funding from the Department of Education, found that afterschool programs had positive and significant effects among students at risk of failure in reading or math. Researchers found positive results on reading achievement, particularly in lower elementary grade levels and in high school and positive and significant effects on math achievement, particularly for middle and highschool students.

The main expense will be for a rental space.    I also need funds for supplies, staffing and other overhead cost.  Thank you!
