Randy Bruns entered the emergency room on July 2013 with a serious, life threatening, infection. The emergency doctor said he would have died had I brought him in the next day. He waited too long not understanding its severity because it was developing under the skin. He bumped himself on a ladder a few days prior on a job site. The doctors then proceded to admit him for surgery later that day, at St. Alphonsus in Nampa, Idaho. After the doctors cleaned it out by 1/3, they decided to continue the surgery the next day, intending to clean more infection out. The next day during surgery, the doctor had to quit cleaning the infection out because Randy's heart coded(cardiac arrest) and had to be given epinefrine to start his heart. The doctor tried to stabilize him with machines, tubes and tons of medicines. Our family and friends waited for, it seemed hours until we could see him. He was unresponsive for several days and we wondered if he would wake up because he was not breathing on his own. Randy's heart doctor Randall Bird, said Randy's heart was abnormally large by 1/3 and the blood flow to his kidneys was too slow. He eventually woke up but was extremely weak. His week stay in the ICU turned into 3 more weeks in another room as he stabilized. Because Randy has never been sick, he had never registered with the VA hospital in Boise. I registered during his stay but they do not pay for any operations or sugical procedures after the fact. We were and still are faced with paying close to $170,000. Randy cannot work because the recent heart tests reveal his heart working at a 37% capacity. Randy has applied for disbility due to his inability to work, lift heavy objects or walk any distances. His doctor will not let him do any stress related work because of his heart. I am working as a nanny but this only pays our monthly bills. Randy only receives about $255 from the VA, since his infection. We have been unable to even touch the hospital and doctor bills. We are praying and asking for help from anyone that would be able to assist us. Thank you for listening
