Namaste dear friends,
Many of you have shown great kindness to Nepal in the past, especially after the earthquake in April 2015. Your generosity allowed me to distribute more than $30,000 directly to those communities harmed by that disaster.
I am writing to let you know what I'm trying to accomplish now. I will be serving as president of the Rotary Club of Durbarmarg in Kathmandu for the next year. I’d like to share with you two of the projects on the agenda I have set for our club during my year as president.
One of our top priorities is to staff health camps in remote parts of Nepal. This involves providing transportation, food, and lodging, as well as logistical support for medical teams of doctors and nurses who travel to the countryside to provide checkups and referrals to [phone redacted] people. We have sponsored this kind of work in the past and would like to expand our efforts to include 5-6 camps this year. There are many people who live too far outside the Kathmandu Valley or other major population areas to access medical assessment and care. This is an opportunity to bring those services to them.
Additionally, we are working toward empowering women and girls with information about feminine hygiene and health education. Hygiene solutions for girls translate directly into more consistent school attendance and increased graduation rates. This in turn allows them to pursue opportunities, and succeed.
I am personally trying to raise $10,000 to donate to our club. The money I hope to raise will supplement grants our club has applied for through Rotary International and other fundraising efforts. Thank you for considering my proposal to help the people of Nepal.
