My name is Gadi Hyer. Allow me to tell you my story...
My family & I had been offered by a life-long friend of my fiance's to move to Seattle a little over two years ago from Louisiana and start over in a new environment that would be more beneficial to my three daughters Liz (14), Alia (7) and baby Indiana Jones (3) (Yes, that's her real name!). We came up here with the intent of helping my fiance's friend through school while getting reestablished ourselves. We sold almost everything we had and made the two and a half day trip on a Greyhound bus with the three children with no family members or any other friends to welcome us on the other end. We had found an apartment in South Everett and it was to be a true adventure and the beginning of a whole new life!
Early last May, both myself and my fiance Theresa had a sudden change of occupation and our rhythm of getting things payed on time was broken; rent wasn't getting payed on time. Also, Alia was beginning to act out in school so Theresa did what she thought was best for her child and had sacrificed time from work in exchange for quality time with our daughter, which had proven to be effective with Alia's behaviour but also added to our financial struggles.
Aware of our dire situation, we had turned to Volunteers of America for help with our rent. Unawares that this was a deal-breaker in our lease, the apartment complex we were staying at for two tears had decided to dissolve the lease, casting us out on the street, refusing to work with us.
On June 1st 2017 we had lost the only place we knew as home here in Washington state.
We had called all the help hotlines available, all leading to the same results. I have already exhausted all other possiblilties of assistance with family relatives. I cannot ask for help from my immediate family.
Our options were to stay in a family-friendly homeless shelter or continue to fend for ourselves. Being that Theresa and I are still both working full time jobs, we had decided to stay in a motel room rather than dealing with the uncertainties of a homeless shelter feeling it would be safer for the children since they would have more privacy and security.
This motel room is costing me $415 a week.
Multiply that by 4 and you, dear reader, will see that totals to an amount of $1660 a month, which is what I was initally paying for rent approximately. So paying rent is not an issue. We just need to find a landlord that would be willing to work with us since apartment complexes are now out of the question due to the eviction that has been put on our record.
What IS an issue is the ability to gather enough money for a new place. We need one full months rent PLUS a deposit which usually is the same amout. I am turning to you, America, to help my family get back up on our feet so my children can have a place to call home instead of living in a tiny motel room.
I am asking you, America, to look in to your heart and help however you can. Any amount will be well received and very much appreciated! Not for my sake but for my childrens. No child should be homeless and this whole ordeal has been a tremendous strain on both my fiance, the children and myself. It has been a psychological blow on me personally, leaving me with feelings of incompetence. My self-worth is at an all-time low; What good parent wouldn't want to provide for their children?
So... This is the reason behind this fundraiser. All donations will be going to getting a new home for my children and NOTHING ELSE. The only ones benefitting from this are my children, my fiance and myself. It is my desire that we reach our goal as soon as possible and no-one other than myself is working on this. My family is aware that I have started this fund.
The Hyer-Jones family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts in advance and to anyone that can find it in their hearts to help us out - God bless you seven times over!
