Sunday  (7/21/2019) our horse reared up with my husband on her back and went over and she landed on his chest. He is in the ICU with 8 broken ribs (4 of those (ribs #5-8)  broken in multiple spots which adds a high level of risk), damage to his lung and air and blood in his chest cavity. This is a MAJOR injury and he is lucky to be alive. They put in a drain tube yesterday (7/22) because that fluid in there could lead to pneumonia. In 24 hours the a large amount of fluid has come out
This morning  (7/23) his xray and cat scan did not come back with good news. The bruising to his heart and pocket that has created in there has made it to where the hospital he is in is no longer comfortable keeping him there. He got a helicopter ride to a bigger hospital with a better trauma center should what they saw on the scan need surgery because they are just not prepared for this level of trauma at the smaller hospital. We asked for ground transport but the doctor said that was not an option with the extent of this injury because it would have been a minimum 3 hour drive to make and there was too much risk to do so.
They are going to do surgery this morning (7/24) and screw together some of the ribs that are broken in multiple spots. This may get him out of ICU quicker.

I will continue to update this as we go along.

We lost our insurance when Obamacare went into effect and it became completely unaffordable for us but we "made too much" to qualify for assistance to make another plan affordable. Dave is the sole provider for our household so with him in the hospital we have no income coming in right now. I will have one paycheck to stretch out as far as I can until he is able to go back to work.  We will apply for any assistance we can get toward the medical bills but at the end of the day there will still be a large hospital bill from 2 hospitals and a helicopter flight that we are going to have to find a way to pay.

Had she hit the center of his chest he most likely would have died from the injuries. He is alive and I am thankful. This situation is so overwhelming but I am trusting God will see us through and I thank you in advance for reading this, any help you can give and your prayers.
