We are striving to host the 4th edition of the Race For Nilo & The Race For Jocelyn on Sunday, Decemeber 16 2018, in Toledo City- Cebu Philippines. Thank you to each person who has made this event their own with suppoprt of the project in the past.
The Race For Nilo & The Race For Jocelyn over the past 3 editions has turned into one of the most prestigious one-day cycling events in the entire Philippines. One of the most important main motivations with this project has been to Race For Jocelyn Miller. At 7 years young Jocelyn lost her life to a mosquito bite and the resulting Dengue Fever.
It was Jocelyn Miller's dream to be like her father Joseph Miller, who is one of the top racing athletes in the Visayans. Her path to this result was cut short by the tragic Dengue Fever. So for the past few years we gather in Toledo City to Race For Jocelyn and host one of the most important cycling events in the Philippines.
Now this event is one of the largest prize list races for Women athletes of the Philippines. It has been a major blessing for many Women cyclists to be able to come to Toledo City and pay respect to Jocelyn and race in her honor and her memory.
The initial meaning of this special event was to Race For Nilo, who was taken out by a drunk driver while riding. Nilo had no helmet on at the time of the accident and nearly lost his life from the impact. Nilo faced double skull surgery and weeks in the hospital to try to be stabilized and regain his senses and motions. Nilo was one of the most accomplished racers in Cebu, and a father of 3 girls, but the doctors said he will never race again.
The first editions of the Race For Nilo helped to give Nilo back his fighting spirit. Over time he worked extremely hard to regain his power and bring his life back to normal as it was before the accident. The event in his hometown served to motivate him and uplift his spirit when he certainly could have gone down the path of depression and uncertainty. Incredibly, Nilo has made a full comeback and he is back to his amazing self on the bike. It has been a true miracle comeback to witness and Nilo even has gone on to win the race that was named after himself this past year 2017.
The Race For Nilo & The Race For Jocelyn now brings together the very best cycling athletes from the Philippines to compete for the largest prize list in the Visayans. But more importantly it brings the best Women and Men athletes in the region together to pay respect for any of their loved ones who have faced tragic circumstances. We race for Jocelyn now, and the event is a prime example of how uplifting love and support shown by a group can then bring on power and recovery from such horrible incidents.
This event has been received greatly by the people of Toledo City. There is now a free Kids Race to close the days activities. The Junior races for Road Bike and MTB have the biggest prize list for young racers in the entire Philippines. Junior Girls and Junior Boys who make the podium receive early Christmas gifts from the event. For many it will be the largest gift and have the most imapct than any item they will be presented with over the holiday season.
This event only happens because of the GREAT people who have made it their own over the years. Thank you so very much to those amazing folks for seeing the big picture and contributing to this project that touches an extremely large amount of people of all ages and gender.
There will also be an Mountain Bike event related to this project for 2018 held at the beautiful Foressa Trails above Balamban.
The amount of greatness that comes from this project is immeasurable. It benefits in a special manner so many people who are kind, happy and have strong belief in God and the glory of a strong community.
