Hurricane Relief Fund for The Fenelus Family

Donation protected
Hi Friends,

Thank you for all your prayers for those in Abaco. We are going on almost 4 weeks after Hurricane Dorian, and our friends in Abaco still desperately need your prayers! Many are missing and the people that we have received confirmation that survived have literally nothing and are in need of great help. Many of the resources being sent are not being disturbed correctly. Prejudice continues between the Bahamian and Haitians, and I was told by a Haitian family we know that if you do not stay in the shelters, you do not receive much (if any) of the relief supplies. They unfortunately reported there is abuse taking place in some of the shelters, too.

One family that has been very close to us since 2012, when we first started going to Abaco, is Sahra Fenelus and her 3 children: Sheila, Kemba, and Kairo. We praise God they survived the storm in Abaco! Once the storm came to a rest, they were moved to Nassau because Abaco is not safe and there is absolutely nothing left of their home. There are 1300 people missing and many more undocumented missing and dead. Due to Abaco not having the means to move all the decomposing bodies, Abaco’s mainland is becoming very unsafe.

Our family has decided to personally help Sahra and her 3 children. A friend of a friend has given them a small room to live in. They currently have one bedroom to house the four of them, but they still must travel across the street to use a restroom and to bathe. Sahra is in need of money for food, formula, diapers, clothing and uniforms for the children, and money for an apartment. They have about a week left in the room they are staying in, and after that week, their only option is to go back to the shelter if they are unable to pay money for an apartment. She has started to apply for some work in Nassau, but has currently not heard anything back. There are many people looking for work and it is very hard to come by during this time.

Billy and I have sent money to help Sahra and her children get food and things she needs immediately, including passports. However, she is still very much struggling to survive. We have created this GoFundMe with hopes that our friends, family, and co-workers may be able to help us continue to support them during this time of tragic loss. Our goal is to get Sahra and her family into an apartment so that their basic needs are met and they can then begin to rebuild their lives.  We believe with your help, we can accomplish this.

If you would like to give to Sahra, you can give to us through GoFundMe and we will wire her the money through Western Union. Or, if you prefer, we can give you her information for you to wire directly. This is someone we have known since 2012 and know confidently she will use the money for her family. Please join us in being guilty of giving during this time of need!
