Hi family and friends,
As you are aware my mom, father, brother/ his family live in Puerto Rico. The news, videos, and photographs throughout the media outlets are showing the devastation that the island has suffered. Even though my family has only suffered minimal damage to their properties the aftermath of the hurricane is more challenging than the strom itself. All the power lines are down, the island is in the dark and nobody knows how long it will take to get the grid back up to normal.
My brother's small catering business needs to store food supplies in refrigerators and freezers to operate and with no power, he is now unable to earn a living. My mom depends on him for food and drinks as she can not drive on the island at this time.
My mom was scheduled to have a Spinal disc operation on Septemeber 20. This operation is her 3rd operation in the past 10 years. She is 70 years old and her doctor advised that she gets the operation or she will be on a wheelchair for the rest of her life. She is rescheduled to have the operation on October 2. She has a strong spirit and she will make it but I believe that directly sending them the aid they need, will provide some much needed relief.
Nevertheless, not evertyhing is dark, Boricuas are resillient and happy to be alive. We have an optimistic mind that with time everything will be alright.
I am raising money to send a
generator, gas burners, LED lanters, flashlights, batteries ,waterbottles, can food, rice, beans, carton milk, coffee, wipes, bug repellant directly to them. Let me know if I am missing something.
