BVI Animals of Hurricane Irma

I start this fundraiser as a veterinary surgeon practicing in the British Virgin Islands, as an appeal for help for the animals affected by the Hurricanes that have destroyed our islands.
The 2017 Hurricane season, with category five Hurricanes Irma and Maria, plus tropical storm Jose, have devastated the British and US Virgin Islands, leaving the population without basic necessities of power, water, food and sanitation.
As well as massive destruction of property and infrastructure, the impact on the islands' animals cannot be underestimated and many have been left with severe injuries and illness, exposed to the elements with limited food or water. As well as people's pets, the livestock and horses have been left without grazing or shelter and many have large wounds.
As a veterinary surgeon practicing in the BVI, I have been working tirelessly to try and provide aid and relief to the animals affected by these events. We have been working with charities to provide immediate relief and assistance, however we must now plan for the ongoing needs of the islands' animals for the next few months - namely provision of food and medical supplies; control and treatment of the likely infectious disease outbreaks; and evacuation of animals who are not safe to remain in the territory.
Any and all funds raised will be used to directly improve the welfare of the animals in the BVI and our neighbours in the USVI. Between myself, my colleague and employer Dr Laura Palminteri (who is currently on the ground attending to the animals in Tortola) and my other colleagues from Canines Cats and Critters, we hope that you will join us in helping rebuild a future for the animals in BVI.
