Hurricane Ida Fundraising

Terrebonne Parish lies along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, with little protection from the gulf waters- only through a number of barrier islands. Just a couple of days ahead of the expected landfall of Hurricane Ida, a mandatory evacuation was ordered parish-wide. Although many had left the area safely, there are always those who have no way and nowhere to go, including many of Terrebonne Council on Aging's (TCOA's) elderly and disabled clients. On August 29, 2021, Terrebonne Parish and the City of Houma, bore the brunt of Hurricane Ida as it made landfall. With winds as high as 155 mph, the entire Parish was devastated.

Recovery will indeed be slow as it seems no one was spared---- every home and structure suffered some form of damage, some worse than others. Throughout the years, since Hurricane Andrew in 1992, TCOA has been an active member of the parish's disaster response team. TCOA keeps an updated list of people who need transportation in the event of mandatory evacuation.

In this time of need, we are asking good-hearted people to open their hearts and their wallets to the victims of Hurricane Ida. This GO-fund-me Page was developed in the hopes of reaching out to all who would like to make monetary donations for the benefit of TCOA's elderly clients, including aged 60 and older. On a typical day, TCOA delivers approximately 2,000 units of service to its clients, including but not limited to Home-Delivered Meals and Non-emergency Medical Transportation service. Although in-kind donations started to come in to the parish, there are always bills to be paid, medicine to buy, and other essential items needed.

Monies collected through this page will be used solely for the purpose of addressing the unmet needs of the elderly and disabled clients of TCOA whose lives are impacted by Hurricane Ida.
