Hurricane: help GE families rebuild

On September 14th, Hurricane Florence made landfall just 13 miles from the GE plant in Wilminton, NC. It lingered over us for days, dumping more water and creating more destruction than the region has ever seen. Fortunately, all of our GE employees are safe, and most have recovered with minimal damage. But some GE families have lost their homes and nearly everything in them. It has turned their lives upside down. We are doing everything we can locally to support each other through this difficult time, and the broader GE community has reached out with so many offers to help.

This is how you can best help our hardest-hit families: Your donation will provide our hardest-hit families with a kit of basic supplies to help them begin to recover. It includes things like sheets, dishes, towels and toiletries. Each kit costs $500 and we will purchase as many as our funds allow, focusing on those with the greatest need first. A donation, of any amount, will go directly to the purchase of the kits, which go directly into the hands of these employees.

Some GE sites have already ‘adopted’ families and are rallying to show their support, purchase a kit, and help bring a little normalcy back to these families. Whether adopting a family or donating $20, our team in Wilmington will feel the benefit.
